Plainchain

Privacy policy

Plainchain is a static information site. We use Google Analytics to see which explainers are read — asking first where the law requires it — and we never sell your data.

This page explains what data Plainchain collects and why, in plain language. If anything is unclear, email [email protected] and we will explain it. Last updated October 9, 2026.

What we collect

Plainchain is a static site with no accounts and no login. We measure which pages are read with Google Analytics (details below), but we do not build advertising profiles and we do not sell data to anyone. If you email us, we keep that correspondence only for as long as we need it to answer you. If you subscribe to updates, we store your email address solely to send those updates, and every message carries a one-click unsubscribe.

How we use Google Analytics

The tool is Google Analytics 4, provided by Google LLC and Google Ireland Ltd. In plain terms, it records which pages you look at, which site linked you here, roughly where you are (to city or country level), what device and browser you use, and how your visit is timed. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We have turned off advertising features, Google signals and ad personalisation, so the data is not used for advertising, and it is never sold.

It works with two first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_<ID>, that last up to two years — and they are set only after analytics has been allowed. In Europe (the EEA, the UK and Switzerland; we go by your device's time zone), you see a banner first, and nothing is sent to Google unless you click Accept. Outside Europe, analytics is on by default and you can switch it off at any time. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we treat that as opting out. We record your choice in your browser's local storage under the key analytics-consent, not in a cookie.

Changed your mind? Change your analytics choice to bring the banner back. You can also read Google's privacy policy, or install Google's Analytics opt-out add-on to block it on every site.

Plainchain sets no advertising or marketing cookies. When you click one of our clearly labelled affiliate links, the destination (an exchange or hardware-wallet maker, or its affiliate network) may set a cookie so it can attribute a resulting sign-up to us — that is how the affiliate model works. That cookie is governed by the destination's own privacy policy, not ours. If you never click an outbound link, no such cookie is set.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete any personal data we hold about you, and to object to its processing. Because we hold so little, most requests are simple to honour. Email us and we will act on valid requests within the timeframe your local law requires. This policy may be updated as the site changes, and the current version's date is shown at the top of this page.
